Meet Xena — a warrior with the softest heart

Xena's story is one of resilience, growth, and learning to trust again.

When she first came to us as a stray, she was completely shut down — scared, unsure, and convinced that if she barked loud enough and acted tough, we'd stay away. But instead of walking away... we leaned in.

On intake, a few of our dedicated staff sat with her outside in the cold for nearly an hour — patiently earning her trust. And little by little, she showed us who she really was...
A treat-loving, command-knowing, sweet girl who just needed to feel safe.

At first, Xena became our little "escape artist" — breaking out of kennels and trying to run from the world she didn't yet understand. It worried us for her safety... but it also told us just how scared she truly was.

And now?
Now Xena waits at her kennel door to be taken out.
She knows she's safe.
She knows she's cared for.
And those midnight escape attempts? A thing of the past.

Xena has come so far — and her personality is finally starting to shine.

She:
• Has done well with kids
• Is improving with new people (pro tip: bring treats and you're instantly her best friend)
• Doesn't seem to mind dogs outside of the kennel (proper introductions always)
• Didn't seem bothered by cats
• Is completely housebroken
• Knows basic commands and is eager to learn

She's still working on her leash manners — she's a strong girl, just like her name suggests — but she's incredibly food motivated and eager to please, which makes continued training so rewarding.

Xena loves her yard time and would happily spend hours outside soaking up the world around her. She just wants love, attention, and someone to call her own.

The scared girl who once hid behind a tattered harness is gone...
In her place is a happy, growing, trusting dog who just needs someone to keep showing her that life can be good.

She is UTD on vaccines, microchipped, and spayed — all she's waiting for now... is you.
